Apertature shots

Playing around with the aperture effect

These are just some basic photo's I took whilst playing around with the aperture feature on my camera, I've not used this effect before and in our film class Steven suggested that it would be a good idea to familiarise ourselves with it as it can come in handy and help produce some effective imagery.

Fashion Market Levels

There are six different fashion market levels, at the top of the fashion market is Haute Couture. This is the most expensive and is highly sought after, couture clothing can only be made in Paris, France.

Next is luxury clothing, luxury clothing is not as expensive as couture but is still pricey but anyone can buy it and it is made from quality materials. At the moment the largest consumer of luxury clothing is China.

Diffusion line comes after, this is when brands such as Marc jacobs a luxury brand will have another line like Marc by Marc jacobs which is cheaper. this is so people who can't afford the luxury product can still buy something with the designers name on it and feel elite but without lowering the price of the main line.

Bridge branding are stores that are more expensive than high street but below luxury, these offer good quality clothing at a less expensive price but still not affordable for the masses.

High street is next which is more affordable than bridge branding and off a lesser quality but still good.

Economy is at the bottom, these are cheap clothing which is often made of a questionable quality. This is consumed by people who want cheap clothes that are deemed as fast fashion.

The Creative Economy

The creative industry consists of three groups, you have your originators, experience creators and content producers. These three different groups have different roles and identities.

Originators, these are people who create one offs this is where the creative economy starts. This will contain people like artist Damien Hirst, haute couture fashion garments that are one off designs come into this as well.

Experience creators, this is where you get an experience. This could be something like buying a ticket to a concert. Perhaps if you went to see a fashion this too would come under this umbrella, a gallery exhibition as well.

Content producers, This is effectively where the money is made in the creative economy. This includes, fashion, music, film and t.v, this is because this is where people consume.

My icons

Pierre Debusschere

Pierre Debusschere, is fashion photographer who's work I admire greatly. I love his quirky style and I think it is very contemporary and visually appealing to the eye, his photographs are not in anyway boring or simple and each one is different to the last but still has a distinctive look that you can tell it belongs to Pierre. The images are manipulated with what I assume would be photoshop, I think the idea behind is photos is very clever and imaginative entices a view in more. Pierre's work has become very popular, he's worked with Adrianna lima and shot a video for Beyonce's self titled album Beyonce for the song Ghost.

Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is another icon of mine in the fashion industry, I believe she is a truly iconic and legendary fashion photographer. Annie has photographed just about everybody for all the top fashion magazines such a Vogue and Vanity Fair, there is something about her images that give them that special uniqueness. I love her work because I think its very dramatic and cinematic, I think this is why she is so successful, her work isn't just a photograph its a piece of artwork. All of her work is amazing and I struggled to find a picture to post to sum up her work because their are so many amazing pieces so I decided to show a collection, each more interesting and breath taking than the last. Her photos always tells a story and have a mystical whim about them, for example the photo above is of Drew Barrymore and features a large lion however as beautiful as the lion is he still doesn't steal the show and Annie some how still manages too keep our attention on the beautiful Barrymore and the Dress she is wearing.

Christian Dior was the original and first designer of the fashion house Dior,
he was then followed by Yves Saint Laurent in..... Marc Bohan then took over,
After Gianafranco ferre was the creative designer before being followed by John
Galliano, he was the creative director from 1996 to 2011 he was then asked to leave after
an anti Semitic scandal. The new creative director is now Raf Simons.

To be a professional in fashion promotion

What does it take to be a professional in fashion promotion?
Skills: I think the important skills to have are a good work ethic, good grammar and good communication. An eye for fashion and attention to detail, these are important skills because in fashion promotion all of these will have to be used to the best of your ability and the better you are able to communicate with others and work hard the more likely you are to succeed like in most jobs.
Qualifications: I think it is important to have a basic knowledge of english and maths to some degree as this is an important aspect to any job, I also think perhaps a degree can be a good thing to have to help prepare you with the knowledge to help get into the industry, however I don't think it is a necessity and you can you can get by without it but it is much harder and you'd have to have the right attitude and skills.
Attitudes: Important attitudes I would consider someone who is ambitious, enthusiastic, positive, a team player, confident as well as proactive.
Attributes: For attributes I think a person should be outgoing, reliable, fashion continuos and punctual.

What is fashion?

Where has fashion come from?,
Fashion has arguably been apart of our lives for hundreds of years and can even be dated back to the Egyptians, however fashion as we know it originated in Paris, France. To be more specific it was Versailles, during King Louis XIV rule from 1722-1789
Where was the first centre of fashion?
Due to King Louis XIV Versailles, in Paris became the first centre of fashion in the world. Louis set it up so that people could bring clothes and jewels they had made to show off to the king, Versailles was originally a hunting lodge which he then turned into the Palace we know today. Louis would then send off his favourite designs to show off to the rest of Europe so they could see what the latest trends were in the French royal court and could copy. France then had a very strong influence on the rest of Europe
When was the age of the designer?
The age of the designer was mid 19th century, and the first real designer was Charles fredrick worth. Charles was born in England before moving to Paris continue his work as a fashion Designer, he is know as the father of Haute Couture.
